Can you imagine a city where Peace patrolled at night, and Righteousness governed by day? Can you imagine a Chicago where violence was unheard of, a city not subdivided into North and South and West — but united by a common salvation, whose neighborhoods were a living paradise?

Sermon: Sunday, December 27, 2016: First Sunday after Christmas Day
How will we balance respect for our history and traditions with the need to break open our boundaries even further, to welcome people and communities who’ve felt excluded from our fellowship? More importantly, how will we do this without creating competing camps, reinforcing old conflicts? It will be by listening to each other.
Sermon: Friday, December 25, 2015: Nativity of Our Lord, Christmas Day
But Christmas Day is for poems. The attempt to say something true about a thing we’ve only seen in glimpses, to describe a reality that can’t be put under a microscope. Christmas Day is a singing revolution, the peaceful overthrow of a tedious regime by musicians and mystics and poets.
