Message: God is still speaking…

“There is in you something that waits and listens for the sound of the genuine in yourself and sometimes there is so much traffic going on in your minds, so many different kinds of signals, so many vast impulses floating through your organism that go back thousands of generations long before you were even a thought in the mind of creation and you are buffeted by these and in the midst of all of this you have got to find out what your name is. Who are you? How does the sound of the genuine come through to you…the sound of the genuine is flowing through you.” – from Howard Thurman’s 1980 baccalaureate address at Spelman College

The lessons for this Sunday include a word of reassurance from God to the people of Israel that God’s prophetic word – God’s word of justice, mercy and love – will always find expression in God’s prophets. Drive through the city and you may see comedienne Gracie Allen’s famous turn of phrase on the banners outside UCC congregations, “Never place a period where God has placed a comma… God is still speaking.”

If we believe this to be true, then it must occur to us that God not only has something for us to hear, but that God has something for us to say. God is still speaking… through us. What is the word God has given you to share with the world?

In Christ,

Pastor Erik
