Message: Welcome Strangers…

The reading from Hebrews assigned for this Sunday reads, “Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing that some have entertained angels without knowing it. Remember those who are in prison, as though you were in prison with them; those who are being tortured, as though you yourselves were being tortured.” [Heb 13:2-3]

We are very fortunate to be joined in worship this Sunday by Ms. Jen Rude. Jen is the Community Minister at Resurrection Lutheran Church in Lake View and a Youth Outreach Minister with The Night Ministry. She is also rostered for ordained ministry, awaiting call, by The Extraordinary Candidacy Project.

Earlier this year St. Luke’s council voted to donate 10% of the gift we received from Hollywood Lutheran Church to The Night Ministry as a sign of our faith that gratitude and generosity are inextricably linked. We look forward to presenting Jen with our gift to The Night Ministry, an organization committed to showing hospitality to those who experience Chicago’s streets as both prison and torture, and to hearing the Word she will share with us in worship.

In Christ,
Pastor Erik
