Message: A Scout is reverent…

Boy Scouts logo The Boy Scouts of America have designated the Sunday preceding February 8 (Scouting Anniversary Day) as Scout Sunday. It’s a chance to celebrate the work of these young men and their adult mentors in the life of our congregation and neighborhood.

This year the packet of materials associated with Scout Sunday included the following line in a prayer for youth: “We pray for our young people, who are seeking a cause worthy of their life’s commitment and a leader deserving of their devotion.”

The task of finding a cause worthy of a life’s commitment and a leader deserving of devotion is a task all of us face in our lives. It is present even in our gospel reading for this Sunday, where we hear the story of Jesus calling Simon Peter, the fisherman, to a new vocation of catching people. In response to this call, Peter drops his nets, leaves everything behind and follows Jesus.

We give thanks for the work of our Boy Scouts and the legacy of Troop 115. Under the faithful care of parents and mentors, these young men are being pointed toward a way of living, a faith, that is worthy of their life’s commitment and a leader deserving of their devotion.

In Christ,

Pastor Erik
